Although one of the more arid of the various karoo areas in South Africa, the quarz-gravel soil support a extraordinary number of plant species like these bushes ( or 'Bossies' in Afrikaans ). The Roggeveld Plateau, that extends eastward on the mountains in the background has a slightly diffirent eco-system. In the top centre of the image the Gannaga Pass winds its way over the Roggeveld Mountain range to the small outpost of Middelpos. GPS = 32° 10' " South & 19° 58' " East. Elevation
