The 2502 meter Kompasberg Mountain towers above autumn Lombardy Poplar ( Populus nigra ) trees near the town of Nieu-Bethesda. This famous peak, that looks like a compass, is a landmark in the Sneeuberg Mountain range that runs north of Graaf-Reinet. It can be seen from many kilometers away.
