Three youths move across an empty parking area in the Northern Cape Karoo town of Carnarvon. Closed businesses line the street next to the Astoria Hotel. Due to a small yearly rainfall and little pollution the skies over the Karoo are mostly clear and blue. The word 'Karoo' has Khoisan origins and is thought to mean 'Land of thirst'.
