Florence, Tuscany, Italy. Plaque in Piazza della Signoria marking the spot where Friar Girolama Savonarola and two others were executed on May 23, 1498. The plaque inscribed in Italian reads: Here, with his brothers Friar Domenico Buonvicini and Friar Silvestro, Friar Girolama Savonarola was hanged and burned after the passing of an unfair sentence. This memorial was placed four centuries later. The historic centre of Florence is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
