Protea plants in fire-damage scrub. Burnt Protea sp. plants producing new growth (green) in an area of land ravaged by a forest fire. Many protea plants only produce new growth after natural fires. However, in many parts of South Africa, protea populations are under threat by too frequent fires, often caused by humans. Photographed in Cape Point Nature Reserve, Western Cape, South Africa.
