Butia (pindo) palm in Rocha, Uruguay


Endangered old-growth palm grove in Rocha Uruguay (cause is cattle grazing which prevents regeneration of the palms, which are up to 350 years old). This stand of Pindo palms (Butia capitata) is in the Castillos region in Rocha Uruguay. This region has the world's largest remaining stand of wild butias.
