Canadian Memorial Vimy Ridge, France. View from the other side, looking up from the hill, front of memorial.

The Canadian Memorial situated at the site of the April 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge. the memorial is situated on Hill145 which was the site of heavy fighting between defender and attackers. From the car park its a canny walk to the memorial and you pass through preserved parts of the battlefield that are still full of unexploded ordnance that its too risky to ever walk through. Trenches and shell holes are still visible though are now grassed over. It is one of the most powerful monuments to be seen upon the battlefield and is much visited by Canadians, on my visit there was a pipe band and several Canadian schools and colleges and they were there to see in person the scene of sacrifice by their forbears, many look for family names on the inscribed walls of the monument.
