Aboriginal artist John Murwandgul painting a bark using natural ochres about the story of his ancestors in remote Arnhem Land

The Aborigines are the original indigenous inhabitants of Australia whose presence in this land can be traced back to more than 40,000 years. There were more than 400 clans and languages before whiteman arrived in Australia. Aborigines today desperately cling to their Aboriginal belief system its lore and traditions and "the Dreamtime" when their ancestors created the world, the different clans, their customs and their law . Today they uphold their own clan "Dreaming" , in their rituals, ceremony, initiations and corroborees and paint it in their art.
