Irish pin Tara brooch as worn by the high Kings and Queens of Ireland on lapel of green jacket

The Tara Brooch takes its name from the Hill of Tara in Ireland where the High Kings were crowned. A warrior Queen would wear it to pin her cloak at the shoulder. It was believed to keep the wearer safe in the midst of battle. The beautifully ornamented original can be seen in the National Museum of Ireland.
