Spotted Lanternflies

Spotted lanternfly adults and a nymph on a tree in Pennsylvania in August 2018. Lanternflies feed on a wide range of ornamental, woody, and fruit trees, and they excrete a sticky fluid which promotes mold growth. The spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is native to China and was first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014. It has since spread to several nearby states, and has the potential to become a major agricultural pest.
