The god Shu, brother of Tefnut, was the personification of the atmosphere, and his name translates "to raise."

According to Egyptian mythology, the god Shu (pictured here) and his twin sister Tefnut were created by Ra, the solar deity. Shu was the personification of the atmosphere, and his name translates "to raise." In art, he is usually depicted with an ostrich feather on his head, the hieroglyph of his name. In his right hand is an ankh, the symbol of like; in his left, a scepter.
