Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare, is shown crowning a brave warrior with an olive wreath.

According to the ancient Greeks, Athena, the daughter of Zeus (king of the gods) was the goddess of wisdom and warfare and the patroness of Athens. The temple known as the Parthenon was built high on Athens' Acropolis. In myths, she is named as the helper and protector of many heroes and heroines. In this illustration, Athena is shown crowning a brave warrior with an olive wreath—Athena had, in a contest with Poseidon to be the patron of the city, given the olive tree - hence the name Athens in her honor.
