There aretwenty-one of these, in various condi-tions of ruins, and perhaps the best oneto see is that of San Juan Capistrano,—the Spanish for Saint John the these early Spanish propagandistsalways named their surroundings eitherafter a saint or on account of some re-ligious feature or circumstance. The re-sult is that sometimes the naming savorsof blasphemy. The writer does not seewhat good is gained by naming a gristmill, The Mill of the Blood of JesusChrist, but the name is a Spanish fact,while the Street of the Holy Ghost, the Street of Jesus Christ, and the like, arecommon enough.
