2 families are squatters in one flat at Melcombe Regis Court in London's West End in 1945 as part of a mass invasion of the block by 200 homeless people. This was caused by a severe housing shortage and rising demand after the war. This block was used to house American forces during the war.

In the photo are Mr & Mrs Hall from North Kensington with children Richard, 5, and Billy, 5 months plus Mr and Mrs Brook, also from North Kensington, with their children, Leslie, aged 2 years and Margaret, 8 years. 200 people occupied 67 flats as part of a wider invasion of the West End by homeless people who began squatting.
