Close-up of the back of Blackthorn blossom (Prunus spinosa), showing the sepals. Both Blackthorn and Cherry Plum bloom early in spring, but the green sepals of Blackthorn lie flat against the white petals, while Cherry Plum sepals fold back on themselves.
