Buddhist monk of the Shingon sect walking along the main road of Koyasan, a 1,200-year-old religious site at the top of secluded Mount Koya. There are 117 temples on the site, of which half are shukubo (pilgrim's lodging) that accommodate devotees and tourists, and have them participate in Buddhist rituals. In the background is a shukubo. The site has been placed by UNESCO on its World Heritage List.
