Crocus flowering plants belong to the family Iridaceae comprising of 100 species of perennials growing from corms. They have a rich symbolism of rebirth, innocence, joy, and new-beginnings to their blooming flowers of large white, yellow, orange or purple flowers in Springtime. They are low growing plants, whose flower stems remain buried in woodland, scrub, open spaces, meadows and gardens. They then become dormant after flowering. Crocuses are also native in many countries in the Northern hemisphere.
