This photo shows natives at work clearing the forest in prepartion for the removal of top-soil after prospecting and testing of gravel had proved the existance of quantities of diamond-bearing gravel in the area. This area has been burned and natives are shown chopping a 120 foot kapok tree into sections. As there is no heavy machinery at this camp, ( Bole Moyenne), to aid in clearing a way these giant trees, this is the only method wherby the tree can be removed from the working area. It took three men five days to hack down this giant tree and it will take them three more days to remove all traces of the tree, including the roots
