Capo Colona’s history is related to Crotone’s history since its foundation by “Achei”, attracted by a charming place between 740 and 718 At headland “Lacinio”, sacred place, was constructed the famous temple of “Hera Lacinia” Greek goddess of women, of pastures and fertility, about VI century , beyond a sanctuary it is considered like a refreshment and resting place, also like a bank. Sanctuary’s wealth are described by ancient literature like a ranger forest, a lust garden where grazing the sacred oxen by the goddess. There are many personage’s traces of the myth and history: Annibale before turning back to Africa for facing Scipione, tried in vane to get column of gold because he was dissuaded by goddess Hera, dreaming that Hera challenges him to loose the remained eye. At sacred Capo landed Ulisse, naval and ancient documents have been confronted and the result is that “crotonese” Sea the island of Ogigia was inhabited by Calypso, the nymph from “Crin Ricciuto” maybe the name “Capo Rizzuto” comes from here, this is what Omero narrates on his famous “Oddissea”. Of some traces of this place, the sacred areas of Capo Colonna confirms the big value and success on roman epoch. At this days remains by the glorious past, an only solitary and majestically Doric column, 8,30 meters height, master of great sceneries and lancing the blue waves of the sea.
