Sprouts of the parasitic Groundcone aka cancer-root on Sandia Mountain, New Mexico. This plant has no chlorophyll.


Conopholis alpina var. mexicana, aka Alpine cancer-root, Mexican cancer-root, or Groundcone, is a parasitic plant in the Orobanchaceae (Broomrape) family. Having no chlorophyll, it lives off of the roots of other plants, typically nearby trees. These specimens were found on Sandia Mountain in New Mexico
