Skeletal muscle tissue. Light micrograph of a cross-section through tissue from a skeletal muscle. This view shows many individual muscle fibres (muscle cells) arranged into irregular groups termed fascicles. The fascicles are bordered by delicate strands of connective tissues (stained blue-green). This is the perimysium that carries vessels and nerves to the muscle. In cross-section, skeletal muscle fibres mostly contain contractile protein filaments as the cell nucleus is usually displaced to the periphery of the fibre. Magnification: x93 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
