View across the valley of Ambles with Iglesia de Santiago Apostol (Church of St James the Apostle) Avila, Castilla y Leon, central Spain


The church (Iglesia de Santiago Apostol) is Romanesque in origin and was expanded and renovated in the 14th and 16th century. The octagonal Gothic bell tower has seven bells and is made from granite. Valley of Ambles (Valle Ambles) is famous for the quality of meat produced there. Avila, situated in the region of Castilla y Leon, is 53 miles north-west of Madrid and is Spain's highest provincial city, over 1000m above sea level.
