Base from a Purification Brazier, 15th–17th century, Tibet, probably Derge, Iron inlaid with gold and silver, H. 3 5/16 in. ( cm); W. 4 9/16 in. ( cm); Diam. 4 3/4 in. ( cm), Metalwork, This brazier was used for burning sacrificial offerings during purification rites. The circle-on-a-square configuration is echoed in the fire-offering ladles displayed nearby. The base and the drum display a meandering lotus-flower decoration, the drum with four flaying knives in high relief
