Cover of an old pamphlet (Chap book) referring to the life and death of Scottish murderer David Haggart , a gamekeepers son , dog trainer and drummer in the Norfolk Militia stationed at Edinburgh Castle, who was born in Golden Acre near Edinburgh in 1801. Despite being an educated man he later became a petty criminal and pickpocket. On 18 July 1821 - David Haggart was hanged in Edinburgh for the murder of a jailer in Dumfries. His story formed the basis for a film 'Sinful Davey' starring John Hurt in the 1960s
