One of the most popular palms in cultivation for decorative work ; and, as it is quite hard}- it is a very suitable plant for open air culture in Florida. From this species are obtained the well-known palm- leaf fans of commerce. It is advisable with this, as with most other palms that are to be planted in the open ground, to give partial shade while plants are small ; after they are once thoroughly established, they will grow rapidly, and finally attain a large size.
