SI care is necessary in order to secure the successful germination of the seed of the choice kinds of /'. Sinensis. Tlie most suitable periods for sowing are April and May for autumn, and June, July and August for spring blooming. Shallow pans, well drained, are the best, the soil consisting of sandy loam and leaf-mold, worked through a fine sieve ; the pans, when thus prepared, should be well watered before the seed is sown.
