Casque as in C. picticoUis, Sclat, Head and neckblue; occipital region at the base of the casque, lores, and thearea behind the eyes black; sides of the lower part of theneck brilliant deep crimson edged with blue; front of theneck and throat almost completely covered by a large fan-shaped patch of pale rosy-red. This bird will, I think, prove to be the northern repre-sentative of C. loricE, Rothsch., just as C. p. hecki, Rothsch.,is of C. piciicollis ; the drawing and description of the nakedparts are, however, so different, that until I receive livingexamples of both forms for comparison, I prefer to treat itas a species.
