Helichrysum ecklonis


The genus Helichrysum consists of an estimated 600 species, in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). Helichrysum ecklonis named after Christian Friedrich Ecklon (1795 – 1868), a Dane who first visited South Africa in 1823. Developing an interest in the flora he co-authored a catalogue of South African plants between 1835 and 1837. The plant produces light pink flowers with a yellow centre.
