Agreeably to your inquiries and requests, I sendyou to-day a model of my grafting shears. The long shear blade is intended to trim the sideroots, the other for cutting the roots, &c. to theproper length, and the knife which cuts on the con-cave bed, for splitting, which is done much bctlerthan can be done by hand, always making a smooth, clean split, no difference how twisted or crooked thestock is. Last season I had an attachment for point-ing or cutting the wedge on the graft, or sloping thestock and scion in splice grafting, but have adoptedthis plan as better, (intending to make the other partin a separate machine shortly.) The advantages ofthis implement will be obvious to every one experi-enced in root grafting. It being fastened on a benchor table, it operates very fast and docs its work in avery superior manner^ and can be worked by wholly of iron, and will be of tlie best material andworkmanship. P. S.—The blade is cast steel and can be taken offand ground, being fastened with screws on the handpiece. [Anxious to present real improvements to ourreaders, we give Mr. Ryder the benefit of the freeadvertisement his excellent machine so justly model sent us is of wood, except the blade, which is of shear steel. The base has a flange, notshown in the engraving, by which it is screwed to abench.—Ed.] I do not claim to be the inventor of the originalidea, this being a modification of the grafting shearslong in use, but I claim it as a decided improvement. I am now prepared to furnish the machines to alldesiring them, at short notice. The machine is made
