Medical research. Histologist using a bunsen flame to sterilise a wire loop (lower left) inside a safety cabinet (laminar flow cabinet). Sterilising the wire loop, which is used to extract tissue cells from a sample, prevents the cells from being contaminated by other material previously on the loop. The cabinet extracts contaminated air from the area in order to maintain sterile conditions. Photographed at St. Mary's Hospital in Lacor, Gulu, Uganda.
