The stone folly tower of Old John, Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford, Leicestershire. The folly, built in 1784 by the Grey family on top of the tallest hill in Bradgate Park, is a memorial to an estate worker killed in a bonfire accident during celebrations of the 21st birthday of the son of the Earl of Stamford, (a member of the Grey family). The site gives far reaching views of the surrounding countryside and nearby city of Leicester. The tower with its characteristic mug and handle "beer tankard" shape can be seen on the skyline for miles around. Bradgate Park is open to the public all year round and, with its network of footpaths and tracks, is a popular venue for walkers, joggers and cyclists. The park also contains herds of resident deer, ancient Oak trees, the ruins of Lady Jane Grey's House and the "Deer Barn" cafe.
