cockle fishing boats "prop-washing" in The Wash, off the Lincolnshire port of Boston, UK.

The boats here are circling tightly over the cockle beds which will later be exposed at low tide, the action of their propellers is blowing sand off the seabed to reveal the cockles and make them easier to pick. The boats will then settle on the cockle beds when the tides recedes, the crews, of two or three for each boat, will get out and rake cockles until the daily allowed catch per boat, currently at two tonnes, has been collected.
