Leopard tortoise (Stigmochelys pardalis), with its head retracted into its shell. This tortoise is found in the savannah of eastern and southern Africa. It feeds on grasses and other vegetation. It can reach 100 years of age, and 70 centimetres in length. This large specimen (estimated age 50-plus years) was crossing a dirt track in Awash National Park, Ethiopia.
