An experiment to investigate the speed of sound in air. Generate a 1000 Hz sound and amplify it through a speaker ( left) to two microphones one 45 cms and the other 50 cm away from the speaker. The microphones are connected to an oscilloscope where the 1000 Hz sinusoidal waveforms on the oscilloscope are out of alignment because of the different distances between the left and right microphones and the speaker. This is a visualization that the sound wave reaches the nearer microphone before the further one.
