Pilsley is one of three Chatsworth Estate villages with houses dating back to the 1700s, some designed by Joseph Paxton.

Pilsley is one of three Chatsworth Estate villages with houses (almost all have the blue paint scheme which marks out Chatsworth properties) dating back to the 1700s although these two houses by the village green date from the 1830s (Joseph Paxton may well have designed the property on the left). The village has a school and pub, plus a local shop and post office. It is today known mainly for the Chatsworth Farm Shop at the top of the through road.
