The pitcher plant Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa

This carnivorous plant originates from the Eastern United States. Insects are attracted to and fall into the pitcher shaped "leaves" and drown in the liquid found at the bottom. The plant lives on soils which are poor in nutrients and it supplements these with the "digested" remains of the insects it catches.
