Long neck pottery vase of Songze Culture in Zhejiang Museum in Hangzhou, China.

As an important culture of the Formative stage in Tai Lake area, Songze Culture existed between 5,300 and 6,000 years ago from now, connecting culturally the Majiabang Culture and Liangzhu Culture. This period saw great improvements in pottery making techniques. The pottery wheel became a common tool, producing thinner-walled and more regular-shaped pottery wares. Workers also became more skillful in handling the temperature in the kilns, producing both grey and red potteries as they wished. A special kind of wares had also been created, models in grey clay and covered with black glaze, making the products both shiny and impervious to water. (According to Zhejiang Museum)
