Vintage photo of (left to right) Viscount Allenby (Field Marshal Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby), Earl Balfour (Arthur James Balfour, 1st Earl of Balfour) and Sir Herbert Samuel (later to become 1st Viscount Samuel). Allenby (1861 - 1936) was a British soldier who led the Egyptian Expeditionary Force to notable victories in the Middle East during WW1, including the capture of Jerusalem in 1917, and was High Commissioner for Egypt from 1919 to 1925. Balfour (1848 - 1930) was Conservative Prime Minister of the UK from 1902 - 1905, Foreign Secretary from 1916 - 1919 and famously authored the Balfour Declaration of 1917 which supported the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Samuel (1870 - 1963) was a British Liberal politician who served as Home Secretary (1916 and 1931 to 1932) and was the first High Commissioner of Palestine (1920 - 1925).
