Façade of the Hotel Hérouet in Rue Vieille du Temple, at the corner of Rue des Francs Bourgeois, in Le Marais historic district, Paris, France

The Hotel Hérouet is located at 54 rue Vieille du Temple, in the 3rd arrondissement. Built at the beginning of the 16th century by the secretary and treasurer of the Duke of Orleans, Jean Hérouet, it remained in the same family until 1582 and then became the property of the Pelloquin, Tillet and Villarceau. The octagonal turret that attracts the eye is remarkable. It has been installed at the corner of the house and has a trilobe window facilitating the observation of the animation of the district. It is of late Gothic flamboyant style because designed just before the Renaissance. This turret is the only part that has not been rebuilt following the bombing of August 1944, which severely undermined the crossroads of rue Vieille du Temple-rue des Francs Bourgeois, whose construction is clearly recent. They replace buildings often dating from the 16th and 17th centuries that existed before this bloody episode.
