Austria: 'The Terrace'. Oil on canvas painting by Rudolf Ernst (1854-1932), late 19th - early 20th century. Born in Vienna, Austria, to architectural painter Leopold Ernst, Rufolf joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna at the age of 15 before travelling to Rome to study and paint Classical art. In 1885, he started to paint Orientalist themes and traveled through the Middle East where he painted images from the exotic Islamic world.
