Developing flower bud, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This is a developing flower bud on a shoot apical meristem of a variety of the gunsight clarkia (Clarkia xantiana) plant. A shoot apical meristem is where new growth takes place in a flowering plant. Floral buds (red) are developing within primordial leaf axils (green), along with the floral meristem dome (blue).
