Algiers, from 1855 chromolithograph

This amazing chromolithograph of the port of Algiers, on the North coast of Africa, in the 1830s or early 1840s, includes a large palm tree in the foreground, along with a clump of men with rifles or muskets (including I think a barefoot peasant to the right?) and, in the distance, the white walls and roofs of the city of Algiers. The original print in the book is old and fragile and a little dirty, but I think that only adds to the dreamy old-world atmosphere!
