Rayon production research. Industrial chemists using an ultraviolet photometer (left) to detect and analyse the amount of carbon disulphide present during the production of rayon. They are from DuPont's Rayon Technical Division and Electrochemicals Department. The probe is being held at the operator's nose level to check on the efficiency of the fume hood that is designed to extract poisonous gases. The production process is the viscose process of manufacturing rayon. The DuPont company licensed the rayon manufacturing process and produced this textile from 1920 to 1960. Photographed in around the 1950s.
