Ural peasant Yerofey Markov who discovered the first gold deposit in Russia in 1745 depicted in the large scale metal relief entitled 'The Birth of the City' in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The concrete high relief devoted to the history of the city was designed by Russian sculptor Pyotr Sharlaimov and unveiled in 1923 for the first time on the dam of the City Pond (Plotinka). In 1960, the relief was removed and destroyed. It was reconstructed and unveiled again in the 1980s. In 2017, the concrete relief was replaced by the metal one.
