The Indian Mutiny 1857-1859 Aftermath of the Siege of Lucknow. The damaged gate of the Small Imambara (Chota Imambara) at Lucknow, with members of the Madras Fusiliers in front, shortly after the British finally regained control of Lucknow in March 1858. The Small Imambara was built by Muhammad Ali Shah in 1837 as part of a famine relief project and was intended to serve as his own mausoleum.
