Exterior view looking E at the earthen bank of Arbor Low Neolithic circle-henge, Derbyshire, England, UK. The bank encloses a ditch around a central platform bearing an oval setting of recumbent limestone slabs. There are c 50 stones, the broken remains of around 40 which may have stood upright in shallow foundations. At the centre are the remains of a Cove, a setting of 7 stones probably originally forming a square enclosure. At the NW (L) & SE (R) there are entrances through the bank with causeways across the ditch. A Bronze Age round barrow containing two Food Vessels in a cist was built on the bank beside the SE entrance. Arbor Low was a major ceremonial site, its alignments & geometry concerned with the sun & moon at the solstices. Some 50 leys (ley lines) are said to pass through it.
