Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Sheep scab mite (Psoroptes ovis). This astigmatid mite is an obligatory ectoparasite. The mites feed superficially on the skin of a wide range of vertebrate animals causing psoroptic mange. Psoroptes pierce the skin at the base of the hairs, suck lymph and cause inflammation. They are of clinical importance as body parasites of sheep or cattle and ear parasites of domestic rabbits. Magnification: x26 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
