Antlion larva, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The larval form of this insect (family Myrmeleontide) lives at the bottom of a cone shaped hole. When ants or similar insects fall into the hole the powerful jaws of the antlion crush and kill the prey. Another name for the antlion is the doodlebug.
