Anti-Semitic riots broke out at the coronation of Richard I in 1189 in London. Angry mobs murdered some 30 Jews as a false rumour spread that the new king had called for Jews to be killed. Afterward, Richard ordered that the Jews of England be protected. From Cassell's Illustrated History of England, published 1857.
