The Devils Kneading Trough, Wye Downs National Nature Reserve.

This striking topographical feature was originally formed about 100,000 BC when upward earth movements produced a dome which was subsequently eroded to create the North Downs. The hills are steep-sided dry valleys of which the Devils Kneading Trough is the largest and most famous. Continual erosive forces including freezing and thawing of the soil during the later glacial period caused the thawed mud to ooze slowly downhill like ‘porridge to form this dramatic valley.
